College of Arts and Sciences DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year Award Sukanya Majumder Sukanya Majumder has been named our 2011 “Outstanding Teaching Assistant of the Year.” Sukanya is a fifth year graduate student who has taught a variety of courses for Biology, from introductory courses to core courses for majors. She also taught BIOL 204, an advanced Genetics Lab, and is currently teaching BIOL 205, the more advanced course in the series. These courses encompass a broad range of biological topics that require specialized knowledge and distinct laboratory skills. As a Teaching Assistant, Sukanya is very dedicated to the class and students, and takes no short cuts to reduce her effort in teaching even when her research requires extra attention. She is always prepared for class and her lectures to the group; her lectures are clear and very interactive. Sukanya is an enormously talented scientist and teacher. GTAs like Sukanya make our courses come alive and create wonderful learning atmospheres. She leaves behind grateful students and our Department is very appreciative to her for her contributions to our teaching mission. Sukanya also was recognized with the Department of Biology GTA of the Year Award. Congratulations Sukanya!
