Meeting Minutes 2/3/05 Maeve provided hot chocolate and chai tea for the pre-meeting chat time. New Faculty Advisor – Beverly Wemple from the Geography Department was volunteered to be our second faculty advisor (along with Cully Hession in Env. Engineering). Our faculty advisor needed to be a professional member of AWRA. Beverly is a member of the interdisciplinary ‘Research on Water and the Environment’ group. National Recognition- We received notification of our national recognition as a student branch of the AWRA. If anyone would like to see the nice letter they sent us- contact Maeve at mmcbride@cem.uvm.edu. Budget Report – We have finally gotten the account set up to receive the 500 dollar grant from the Environmetal Council that Maeve applied for and won. This money is for research on implementing more ecologically friendly stormwater control on campus. No funds have been spent in any way at this point. 1st Annual Joint Professional Meeting – We are hoping to set this as a potluck meeting for March before spring break. Tentatively the date has been set as Tuesday March 8th in the evening. A list of invited parties has been started. The purpose of this event is to smooze with professionals and other students interested in water resources issues in order to collaborate on projects or find possible jobs in the area. Stormwater Project – This is the project we have received money to plan. We plan to treat the stormwater runoff from the Votey parking lot. This water currently follows an asphalt channel down onto Colechester Ave. Design Charette – A group brainstorm process involving everyone- to educate and formulate ideas in a form which final design can be worked from. Field Trip – To view ecological stormwater control implemented successfully on another campus. Possibly Villanova in PA, University of New Hampshire, or another suggestion someone may have. If anyone wants to try coordinating this let us know. Tentatively set for early April ( to allow for plants to emerge from the snow).
