Sustainability Initiative Award by an Employee or Team
Purpose: To recognize and honor an employee or team (this may be a work group or an entire
department) that actively and positively enhance the University’s sustainability practices.
Nomination guidelines: Any continuing employee or team may be nominated by a colleague,
supervisor, director, or customer. Customers include users of your products or services; partners
who work with your organization; or stakeholders who might be affected by your organization’s
actions and success.
Criteria: Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability through active
involvement in activities such as:

Integration of sustainability best practices within existing programs.

Inclusion of sustainability concerns in current decision-making and/or in long-range
planning for areas of concerns.

Promotion/advocacy of sustainability practices within their department and/or across the
University.

Efforts to educate themselves or others regarding sustainable practices.

Development and implementation of new operating procedures or practices to better
support sustainability goals.
Directions: Use the nomination form to submit the name of the employee or team to the Awards
Committee by June 1st. Multiple nominations are welcome, but each submission must be on a
separate form. Describe situations or give examples of how the nominee goes out of her/his/their
way to enhance the University sustainability efforts. Additional documentation may also be
submitted if necessary.

Explain how this employee or team consistently demonstrates commitment to University
sustainability goals. Provide data and information on how the employee or team has produced
benefits for your customers or your organization. List specific outcomes and/or results achieved.
