Thank you for your inquiry about the position of Patrol Officer with Madison College
Public Safety. We are in the process of recruiting patrol officers to fill vacancies and
create an eligibility list for future vacancies.
Madison College Public Safety is a progressive and growing department in the Madison
College community. We strive to attract and retain people who reflect the diversity of our

both verbal and written. Furthermore, we seek individuals who will enforce the Madison
College Student Rights and Responsibilities and laws of the State of Wisconsin while
protecting the individual’s Constitutional rights. Madison College Public Safety is

with the Madison College community to preserve the peace, reduce the fear of crime, and
provide for a safe learning environment.
Inside this packet you will find the application. Pages 1 through 3 should be kept for
future reference. Pages 4 through 9 must be returned to the Public Safety office in Room
B1240 at the Truax Campus. There is also an essay portion which must be completed and
attached to the packet. Essays should be typed and double spaced. Also attach a copy of
your driver’s license and any copies of your Military Separation Form DD214.

The Hiring Process
The Madison College Public Safety hiring process is a fair and equitable competition that
results in the best candidates being offered employment. The amount of time required to
complete all stages of the process varies according to the needs of the department and
anticipated start dates.
The following describes the steps in our patrol officer hiring process:
1. Application for Employment: Applications are screened for completeness and
minimum qualifications.
2. Written Examination: Following the review of your employment application
form and preliminary background investigation to ensure minimum requirements
are met, you may be invited to take a written examination on the day of the
interview. This examination will measure a variety of proficiencies necessary to
be a patrol officer.
3. Department Panel Interview: An oral interview will be administered by
members of Madison College Public Safety. The interviews are focused on
competencies required for employment as well as your suitability to fit within our
organization. This information is used to assess how you likely will perform on
the job as a patrol officer.
4. Captain’s Interview: Candidates will have a personal interview with the
Operations Captain.
5. Conditional Offer of Employment: A conditional offer of employment with
Madison College Public Safety is the successful completion of the background
investigation.
6. Background Investigation: A thorough and detailed background investigation is
completed on the top candidates who successfully pass the Chief’s Interview.
7. Final Offer of Employment: Final offer of employment are made and candidates
are notified of a tentative start date.

Patrol Officer Vacancy
Madison Area Technical College Public Safety Services
Position: Student Part-time Patrol Officer
Salary: $9.00/Hour, plus $0.20/hour shift differential for nights and weekends
Benefits: Flexible Schedule; Uniforms and some equipment provided
Responsibilities: Provide security functions for all Madison College campuses in
Madison. Respond to alarms and calls for service from students, faculty, staff, and
general public; Ability to discern suspicious conditions or circumstances which indicate
trouble or a crime in progress and report such incidents; Enforce federal, state, and local
laws; Enforce Madison College Student Rights and Responsibilities; Parking
Enforcement; Conduct Foot and Motor Patrol; Protect life and property; and other
security duties as necessary
Qualifications: Current Madison College student enrolled with a minimum of one
credit– Criminal Justice Student is preferred, but not required; Possess a valid driver’s
license; Good Driving Record; Good physical condition; No felony convictions; No
domestic abuse convictions; Good verbal and written communication skills; React
quickly and effectively in stressful situations; Able to work evenings, weekends, and
holidays; Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously; Ability to perform essential
functions of this position. Successful applicants must pass a written examination; oral
interviews, Chief’s interview, and background investigation.
