Elementary Spanish I Vocabulary, grammatical structures and an introduction to the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Emphasis on the spoken language, some reading and writing. Promotes understanding and appreciation of the cultures of the various Spanish-speaking countries. Required lab/library asssignments. Goal Area 6: Humanities & Fine Arts Expand appreciation and critical understanding of changing modes of human expression and systems of thought in the arts and humanities, and develop abilities in the creation and performance of meaning. The study of languages has traditionally been included within the Fine Arts and Humanities. By its very nature, the study of Spanish and the Spanish-speaking world is precisely the study of a distinct and everevolving system of human expression and thought. Given the dual language/culture focus of the course students are regularly exposed to and required to react to a variety of works of art, architecture, literature, music and other forms of cultural expression from the Spanish-speaking world. 13. In order for a course to be designated as fulfilling Goal Area 6, it must address at least 5 of the 7 student learning outcomes (SLOs) below.
