Teaching Showcase

CETL introduced a very successful new series called Teaching Showcase during January

Workshop Days 2015, which we intend to continue during our Fall Convocation, August 19-21,

2015.

In this series, we invited some of SCSU’s excellent teachers to teach one of their favorite classes to faculty and staff colleagues. Following the class, they led a short discussion on what makes the class such a positive experience for the students.

We’d like to feature you or your colleagues in our Teaching Showcase program during Fall

Convocation 2015!

What we would like you to do: Please nominate yourself or a colleague whom you know to be an excellent teacher. Choose (or request your nominee to choose) a favorite class session that has been a truly engaging learning experience for the students. Fill out the form below if you (or your nominee) are willing to teach your favorite class to your colleagues. (You are to teach the class as if the audience members are your students.) Following the learning experience itself, you are to lead a discussion about what made the class tick, what challenges you had, and what you have been doing to address them.

We encourage you to choose the class that you know works well every time! Propose the class that engages students more fully in your lectures and involves them actively in small or large group discussions. Pick a learning experience where they dance or act or play an instrument just a little better, understand more deeply the relevancy of an experiment, case study, or problem, or grasp the meaning of a poem, musical piece, or philosophical idea with extra enthusiasm.

You will have an hour and fifteen minutes. How you design your course and determine the location, class set up, and usage of technology is entirely up to you. All we ask is that you leave at least fifteen minutes at the end for questions and discussion focused entirely on the positive.

To make a proposal, please complete the following form. Proposal forms, which can also be found on our website (www.stcloudstate.edu/teaching), must be submitted electronically to cetl@stcloudstate.edu.

Review of proposals begins on April 20 th , 2015
