Why Do We Have A Code Of Conduct, Character and Support?
I Respect Myself And Other People
“No Significant Learning Occurs Without A Significant Relationship” ~ Dr. James Comer
We have a code to protect people and things in our schools. Adults in your school will teach the skills students
need to be successful in school and in the workplace. Being successful in school and in life is possible when you
have good relationships with the people around you. Good relationships are possible when people respect each
other. All adults are going to supports students to repair harm, correct mistakes and learn positive behaviors. There
are good and exciting things happening in every school and we will celebrate them.
Objective
Students will clearly and in an age appropriate manner demonstrate their understanding that the Code of Conduct,
Character and Support supports the development of good relationships between people and a safe learning
environment.
Big Ideas We Cover as SCSD Educators
o Students have the right to a safe and orderly educational environment and fair and equitable treatment of
all students when disciplinary actions are used.
o The way people behave affects them and other people
o People are responsible for their own behavior
o The root of the word discipline means to teach
o People can learn new behavior at any age
o People can learn to repair the harm their actions have caused
o Our school has a culture and a climate.

* Remember the code is available on SCSD website and can be pulled up on a computer or smart board to
augment a lesson.

school well in the SCSD all year. I’m excited to start with you.”
