Please reproduce and distribute to whom this applies. Please note that this law applies to all school buses with a capacity of 16 or more and trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating exceeding 26,001 pounds (level 2). The new chain law applies to state, federal, and interstate highways throughout the state. Please note that under the Alternative Traction Devices section, both automatic chains and wheel sanders may be used instead of chains. This brochure also states that when the chain law is in effect, electronic message signs will be posted indicating which vehicles must chain up.
