10th Grade PLAN/ICAP Implementation
“Expanding Career and College Knowledge”
Learning Targets:

Sophomores will receive their PLAN results and will gain an understanding of what their scores
mean and how their PLAN results relate to their high school curriculum and future planning.
Sophomores will log onto Naviance and continue to explore the Career Section.
Sophomores will gain a better understanding of how their personality types and interests relate
to careers through the “Do What You Are” survey.
Sophomores will set a goal/update their Career/Post Secondary Goal and formulate two realistic
steps to achieve set goal.
Sophomores will explore college/postsecondary options that meet their Career needs through
the College Finder component (if time allows).
Colorado State ICAP Required Elements Met:
1. Data reflects students’ progress towards postsecondary/workforce readiness.
2. Updating of the students’ high school coursework/related activities as they apply to
postsecondary plans.
3. Review and update of postsecondary and career plans.
ASCA Standards Addressed:
1. Academic Standard B: Students will complete school with the academic preparation essential to
choose from a wide range of substantial post-secondary options, including college.
2. Academic Standard C: Students will understand the relationship of academics to the world of
work and to life at home and in the community.
3. Career Development Standard A: Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work
in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions.
4. Career Development Standard B: Students will employ strategies to achieve future career goals
with success and satisfaction.
5. Career Development Standard C: Students will understand the relationship between personal
qualities, education, training and the world of work.
6. Personal/Social Development Standard B: Students will make decisions, set goals and take
necessary action to achieve goals.

PLAN Overview and Review-10 minutes
The PLAN results will be used as a springboard for further exploration and investigation of Naviance and
career options.
1. Highlight Main Components of PLAN results
a. Scores
b. College Readiness Indicators
c. World of Work Wheel as it relates to interests and future career plans
d. How to use PLAN to prepare for ACT as juniors
e. Log-in to website for more information
Use the World of Work wheel to segue into Naviance/Career Section
Naviance Section-25 minutes
1. Students would complete the “Do What You Are” survey, and use these results to add to the
“Cluster Finder” survey that was completed in 9th grade
a. Goal= Each student will add at least 2 more careers to their profile based on information
they have learned through the “Do What You Are” survey
2. Students will update Career/Post Secondary goal if needed
3. Students will add tasks to accomplish to meet the benchmarks for said career goal
a. Goal=Each student will add at least 2 more (or revise at least two) tasks to their lists
***If more class time is available, then students can:

Students will use the “College Finder” and/or “College Match” section to investigate college
options that meet their postsecondary plans
a. Goal= Each student will add at least 2 or more colleges/postsecondary options to their
profile
i. For those students not interested in pursuing “traditional” college programs,
they can focus on career preparation through the “Careers” tab and add at least
2 or more specific skills needed to prepare them for desired careers. (While
most “local’ technical schools cannot be found on Naviance, students are able to
investigate training programs related.)
Options to Incorporate in Curriculum…
Processing and Sharing1. We feel it important for students to not only research options, but continue to process and
share results (aligning with Speech and Writing components of curriculum). Implementation
ideas are:
a. Students can write a brief (7-10 minute) speech on their results or
b. Students can write a research-based paper or personal narrative on findings or
c. Design and share Powerpoints or
d. Divide into groups based on Career Clusters and present in group format
****PLAN results will be tied to junior year scheduling in all buildings.
