It is unfortunate that there are so many adversarial viewpoints as to the best way to fund the government. I think that in discussions about taxes and tax reform, that central idea (funding the government) is not the central focus of the discussion, even though, after all, that really is the primary purpose of government taking money from the citizens it serves. I often wonder what would have happened if the 16th amendment had not been ratified. Unfortunately, at that time, the will of the people was to ignore the wisdom of the founding fathers, who specifically warned against taxing income. I would suggest that it is now time to acknowledge that wisdom and stop taxing income. I believe it would be far better to institute a national sales tax -- as proposed in HR25 and S25, also known as the FairTax. The FairTax will untax the poor, lift the burden of compliance from individuals and corporations, unleash the American economy, and be revenue neutral. I strongly urge you to discuss the FairTax with the author of the bill, Congressman John Linder and to put this plan at the top of your list of proposals. Sincerely, John A. Kozan 4933 W.
