This chemistry course will place an emphasis on problem solving and laboratory skills. Materials Needed 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Notebook scientific calculator 1 box Kleenex 1 roll paper towels notebook paper Grades Grades received during this course will be based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Standards adopted by the State of Texas for Chemistry. The TEKS being addressed may be viewed along with the corresponding grades and assessments when parents and students log into their Home Access Center account. Students may also be able to see current and upcoming TEKS on the weekly lesson plans posted on their Google Classroom account. High school grade calculations for a science course: ✓ Major Assessments (Tests): 70% ✓ Minor Assessments (Quizzes, Major Labs, lab interviews): 30% Along with their Major and Minor Assessments students will be receiving Formative Assessments each class. Examples of Formative Assessments include: minor labs, classwork, and practice problems. These assessments do not average into the final grade for the nine week period. However, they should be used by the student and parent to gauge understanding of the topics being covered. This in turn will help mastery of Major and Minor Assessments. What is needed for Reassessment? 1) In order for a student to retake any Major or Minor Assessment they must have mastered all Formative Assessments. This will be determined through individual interviews with the student along with an on-going log of activities performed and mastered during each class. 2) Students will be given ten school days in which they may be re-assessed from the date they receive their grade for any Major or Minor Assessment. Absences Each student will be responsible for all work missed while absent. Materials and information covered during the missed class period will be posted on their Google Classroom page.
