Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are pleased your child will be in our physical education class this semester/year. We are looking
forward to teaching our students many new physical activities, skills, and assisting them in experiencing
success in all areas of wellness.
MYP Mission Statement
The MYP (Middle Years Program) covers the 9th and 10th grade portion of the International
Baccalaureate. The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to
create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end
the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop
challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage
students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that
other people, with differences, can also be right.
Class Objective:
The goal of this class is to encourage, and expose students to lifetime activities that help students gain
new skills, learn positive teamwork, and achieve individual success within a safe environment.
Ultimately, the goal is to promote a positive attitude towards lifetime fitness.
Dress Requirements:
All students are to dress out in clothes other than the ones worn to school. All students are to wear
indoor court shoes that do not leave streaks on the floor. In addition, male students must wear T-shirts
at all times when working out. Females cannot wear just sports bras or spandex shorts when working
out. We encourage students to wear school colors- Purple and gold. Each student should bring a pen or
pencil, notebook with paper, and a lock for their PE locker.
Grading Criteria and Methods of Assessment:
1. Dressing out, participation, attitude, and cooperation with the teacher and other students are
the keys to success in this class (80% of grade).
2. Written assignments will be given on each activity (20% of grade).
(50% of the student’s daily grade is deducted each time the student fails to dress out. 50% is
deducted if the student does not participate. Therefore, the student could lose 100% of their
grade each day if they do not dress out and do not participate.)
Behavior and Classroom Expectations:
In order to guarantee all students the excellent learning climate they deserve, the following
expectations will be followed. We will not tolerate a student interrupting our teaching.

Physical Limitations:

students. It is vital that we know of any serious physical problems that would hamper your child from
full participation in physical education activities. Please notify us in writing at the bottom of this letter of
any major limitations or any condition that may require modified activities for your child.
Each day your child will be required to dress in activity attire. If limited participation in class activity due
to temporary illness is necessary, it will be required that you send a note with your child each day of the
limited participation. We will accept one note per illness each six weeks. If the illness requires a visit to a
physician, one note from their office stating the length of restricted activity is adequate.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office at 940-369-2000 to schedule an
