Specific Topic: Historical Context
Learning Goal: Students will develop an understanding of Native American oral tradition and Puritan literary tradition and the
historical and cultural context in which these two periods existed.

Block textbook for whatever reason, ALWAYS do a search on the internet to see if it appears there. Almost everything we study in
this class appears somewhere on the internet.

Those students who had completed the Seneca Chief Red Jacket questions discussed them with each other and Ms. S.
and had the opportunity to modify any answers they felt needed more information. These questions were then turned in.
The class began taking notes on Puritans Historical Context. We will finish Wednesday.
Students were supposed to have read and listened to the Seneca Chief Red Jacket 1805 Speech over the weekend.
10 questions dealing with the above speech were assigned, and they are due next class meeting. (These questions are on
the back of a sheet that had already been handed out. It has “Amusements” and “Milky Way” on the other side.)
In class, we read “Amusements” and “How the Milky Way Came to Be”. The questions on the above sheet dealing with
these stories are due next class meeting.
The class began taking notes on Puritans Historical Context. We will finish Thursday.

Students were given their 2 Rhetorical Strategies/Logical Fallacies/Literary Devices handout and updated it. See Ms.
Solomon in tutorials for this information.

Mr. Smith’s transfers were:
 caught up on the Opener. (They did the Closer last class.)
 assigned the questions on “Amusements”. Due 9-9-15.
 given the answer to question #1 on “How the Milky Way Came to Be”. This is the only one required.
All students were assigned the questions to “Amusements” if you had not already completed them.
