Finish notes on Puritans
Explanation of “Plaine Style”—read explanation and then summarize in your own words
Read the “Mayflower Compact” and determine if it’s written in Plaine Style
Solomon reads bio info on Edward Taylor, puritan poet (pg. 114)
Solomon reads Taylor’s poem, “Huswifery” (pg. 120), and class discusses meaning and whether it’s “Plaine Style”
Discussion of literary device, inversion (with Yoda clip), and update RSLD with this device using “Huswifery”
1AB and 5AB stopped here and will finish activities 7-9 Friday.
Solomon reads, students take notes, of bio info on Anne Bradstreet (pg. 114, but you really need to hear Solomon’s extras)
Solomon reads Bradstreet’s poem, “Upon the Burning of Our House…” (pgs. 118-119)
Students discuss the meaning of the poem, and write a 2-3 sentence summary of it in their notes
