BME Seminar Spring 2012 Catalog Description: Graduate seminar course for Biomedical Engineering (1 credit) Pre-requisites and Co-requisites: None Course Objectives: The goal of this course is to provide graduate students in biomedical engineering (BME) the opportunity to diversify their knowledge of BME through presentations covering a variety of topics from experts on campus and invited speakers from other institutions. The course also offers the opportunity for students to present their research and gain feedback from fellow students. Weekly presentations on January 23rd and 30 th; February 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th; March 12th, 19th, 26th; and, April 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Other seminars as announced Attendance and Expectations: Attendance at all seminars is mandatory. Students are expected to participate by arriving on time, not leaving early, and paying attention. Points can be earned through participation and lost by distracting behaviors. An attendance sheet will be available at the seminar and must be signed to receive attendance points. No points will be given to students who are late. Please be considerate to our speakers. PhD students are expected to present a 15 minute presentation on their work, allowing them to improve their presentation skills. Attendance credits may be lost if the student participates in distracting behaviors during the presentation. Grading – methods of evaluation: Each seminar (except for organizational meeting) is worth 10 points. Class participation is worth 20 points. Total points for the semester: 160 points Grading Scale S (passing): >=75% or >= 120 points U (failing): < 75% or < 120 points In order to graduate, graduate students must have an overall GPA and an upper-division GPA of 3.0 or better (B or better). Note: a B- average is equivalent to a GPA of 2.67, and therefore, it does not satisfy this graduation requirement.
