Lab 3073 Water Testing Activity Melissa M. Fowler Water Testing Activity Objectives: 1. To improve students’ knowledge of water quality testing and proper record keeping. Materials: Aquaculture tanks for testing pH test kit or pH meter Dissolved oxygen test kit Carbon dioxide test kit Aquacheck test strips Procedure: 1. Test the pH of the water using a meter or a kit, and record in the water quality excel file. 2. Use the dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide test kits to determine the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively. Record these figures in excel file. 3. Use the Aquacheck test strips to determine the ammonia, nitrite and water hardness levels of each sample. 4. One time each month turn in a set of graphs that represent your data made on the excel worksheet. Turn in a printed copy of your data also. After the graphs are printed save your file as waterdata with the date (waterdata912, for September 12). Then start a new set of data for the next months graphs. Make sure your graphs includes: A title Axis labels Legend A set point line that represents the recommended value of the item being tested. Print two graphs on a page.
