School libraries are vital to education – and Texans are willing to vote in support of them. Nearly all Texans (99%, 84% strongly agree) believe school libraries are an essential part of the education experience and more than nine in ten agree

(95%) that school libraries are critical to student achievement. c.

The vast majority (93%) would support legislation that would require public schools to provide students with a school library and librarian that meets statewide standards. More than 8 in 10 voters across every demographic segment and geographic region support the legislation, including 85% of

Republicans and 95% of Democrats and 96% of Independents. d.

School libraries are a fundamental aspect of a child’s educational experience. e.

93% (including 70% who strongly agree) say that school libraries serve as another classroom for students. f.

Almost all Texans (98%) agree that school libraries teach children the research skills they will need all their lives. g.

Texas voters support increasing funding for both school and public libraries. h.

PBS & AASL - Debbie Abilock, Editor-in-Chief of KQ, posted on the AASL Forum news that PBS &

AASL will be "collaborating to bring PBS Teachers direct access to content from AASL's flagship publication, Knowledge Quest." I highly encourage school librarians to add this page to your RSS feeds given that the articles in KQ, at least for me, have always proven to be timely and valuable.
