The course will begin with chord structures and appropriate nomenclature, and topics such as form, instrument range and transposition, chord/scale relationships, and basic chord substitution will be discussed. Topics will include articulation, standard jazz phrasings, and voice-leading principles. Practical application of diatonic chord progressions using the major scale, and secondary and extended dominants will be explored in the improvisation class.
