Mission Patches The purpose of this activity is to promote team thinking. Each of the three crews will work together to design a mission patch. Materials Needed: 3 transparencies 3 sets of colored markers overhead projector Astro-Info: Astronauts work together to design a patch that represents the individual crew members on their mission. Everything on the patch is representative of something. For example: stars in the sky might represent the number of pets the astronauts have on the Challenger patch there is an apple to represent the teacher on board the Eagle represents the American spirit the deep blue color represents outer space YOUR TASK is to design a patch for your mission. You might use a drawing of the school mascot, a small drawing to represent something about each crew member, SIX of something to represent that you are 6th graders, something to represent your teacher, etc…. Work as a team to design a central logo Be sure everyone on your crew is represented on the patch Decide on colors to be used Create a rough draft of your patch Revise Create the final patch on a transparency with colored markers Show your patch to the class and explain your design Teacher Note: If your school has a “button maker”, patches can be reproduced and worn on mission day.
