Special note: full-time students enrol in FPA400 (100%); part-time students in
FPA401 (50%)
Unit description: Allows students to concentrate on developing a body of
work, usually of a speculative and individual nature, and emphasises a strong
sense of independent enquiry. Research training is provided in theory and
performance-based disciplines in the Performing Arts by supervision of
individual projects agreed to in conjunction with the School’s Honours
Committee, and by a regular seminar program.

Teaching: seminars, individual supervision
Prereq: BPA or equiv
Assess: 12,000-word essay for Theory-based candidates; equiv performance
presentation for Performance-based candidates (50%), 4,000-word theory
paper (25%), 2,500-word report (12.5%), one seminar presentation (12.5%).
Assessment is by a panel of examiners appointed by the Head of School.
Each panel will include an outside assessor. All students undergo a
half-hour oral defence of their research dissertation or theatre performance
