Instructions for Lab Day, August 14th
Please complete the following activities. This will be worth your first 25 points in the course.
1. Look at your Class Syllabus handout. First, if you have not done it already, create an account
with turnitin.com. To do this, go to the turnitin.com website. If you already have an account,
simply add my class using the class ID and enrollment password provided. If you have never
registered with turnitin.com, you must first register for the site. BE SURE YOU USE YOUR
SCHOOL E-MAIL ADDRESS TO CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT!! You will also have to create
a password for the account; choose one you can remember, and be sure you write it down!!!
2. If you have not done so already, please register for remind101 with your phone. You can
either do this by using your phone and sending a text message to the number on your syllabus
and typing the appropriate class code (it must start with the @ symbol, don’t forget). If you
do not have a phone at school, or the text message won’t send, you can sign into remind101
using the computer. Go to remind.com, and click on the box that says “I’m a student or
parent.” On the next page, type our class code (that starts with the @ symbol) in the box.
NOTICE THAT THE @ SYMBOL IS ALREADY PROVIDED, SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO
TYPE IT AGAIN! Write your phone number in the format given (for example, (555) 555-5555)
and press enter. Once you are signed up, you will get text message reminders from me about
homework due. Your parents can also sign up to receive updates using the same message.
3. One last task before we go back to the classroom: Go to my class website (either follow the
links on the RMHS webpage, or use the web address found on your class syllabus). Once you
are on my page, click on your course (either Freshman English Home Page or Senior Home
Page). Once you are on your page, go to the link that says “Click here for MLA template you
can open…” Open the template, and replace the typing with the correct information: your
first and last name, your class (English I or English IV) and the proper date written in the
correct format (14 August 2015). Don’t forget to write YOUR last name before the page
number in the header. Your title should be What I Did Today. In the body of the paper, type
the following:
a. Tell me something interesting about yourself.
b. Tell me your turnitin.com user name and password.
c. Tell me if you signed up for remind 101 reminder texts.
d. Write down your goals for the year and your strategies for reaching these goals.
Finally, after you have written me this information, save your work. NOW UPLOAD IT TO
TURNITIN.COM UNDER THE ASSIGNMENT “FIRST WEEK ACTIVITY.”
This assignment will be graded on whether you completed all the activities and followed the
instructions. This is not an automatic 25 points, so please pay attention to your writing
conventions and content!! I expect legitimate and reachable goals and thoughtful steps to
achieve them.
