1. We are very much looking forward to our upcoming drill competition (Southern California Invitational Drill
Meet - SCIDM) at Redondo Beach, California. This event hosted by the USC ROTC Detachment will be a
great experience for your child. We hope you get the chance to travel to Southern California and see
Dobson’s Air Force Junior ROTC give it their all on the drill deck against some stiff competition from many
southwest regional high school JROTC units. You will also get a chance to see many PAC-12 schools
(UCLA, Washington, Oregon State, etc) compete at the Senior ROTC level. Please be aware that your child
will receive a unique experience from the judges at this meet as most are Marine Drill Instructors from
Camp Pendleton, Ca. You’ll want to bring your camera/video device for sure!
2. This will be a fast weekend with no time to do anything as a family. If you do make the trip, please
understand that from the time your child gets on the bus Friday morning, until Sunday morning when we
board the bus for our return trip to Dobson, your child belongs to us. The cadets do not need to return to
Dobson with us if you would like to continue your SoCal vacation that day. But if you are returning to
Dobson, we ask that the cadets return with us.

i. 27 February
10:00am: Depart Dobson High School (Stop for lunch in Blythe, Ca; Exit 239)
2:30pm: Arrive Hotel (Radisson Suites Hotel, Buena Park, Ca)
3:00-5:00pm: Drill Practice (Medevil Times Parking Lot – Next to Hotel)
5:00-6:00pm: Dinner @ Hotel
6:00-7:15pm: ROLL CALL!! (Shoe Shine/Uniform Prep Party @ Hotel)
7:15-8:30pm: Pool Time @ Hotel
9:00pm: ROLL CALL!! Lights Out!
ii. 28 February
6:45-7:30am: Breakfast @ Hotel
7:15am: ROLL CALL!! - Board Bus & depart for SCIDM
8:00am: Arrive @ SCIDM (Northrop Grumman Aerospace Complex; Redondo Beach, Ca)
3:00pm: ROLL CALL!! - Board Bus & depart for Hotel
3:45pm: Arrive at Hotel & prepare for Knotts Berry Farm Departure
4:15pm: ROLL CALL!! Walk as group to Knotts Berry Farm (Chief Staflin & Mrs Staflin Chaperons)
4:15pm: Optional if not going to Knotts Berry Farm - Pool Time @ Hotel (Col Greensfelder

3. Lodging and transportation costs are covered, along with food costs. We are budgeted to provide each
cadet $36.00 $12 a day) for food expenses. If you feel more is needed, please plan accordingly. Free
breakfast will be provided Saturday & Sunday morning at the hotel. There will also be SCIDM t-shirts &
coins for sale at the drill event. Also, we plan to provide the cadets an opportunity to go to “Knotts Berry
Farm” Saturday evening. The entry fee is $30.00. If you would like your child to go, please make sure
they make their $30.00 payment to Lt Col Greensfelder no later than 27 Feb.
4. For those competing, Service Dress Uniform will be worn. We want to be as sharp as possible, we
request that all “blues” uniform items be dry cleaned. All cadets will wear Dobson AFJROTC PT attire
and/or USAF sweats if not in service dress. Also, please leave no doubt & make sure your son has a
solid haircut! They know the standard  During our leisure time, personal clothing can be worn. Dobson
High School dress code standard will be enforced. Recommend comfortable clothing for the long bus
ride. Also, there is pool at the hotel & the cadets will have the opportunity to swim. Appropriate swimwear
is required.
