Romeo and Juliet Final Project
To conclude our study of Romeo and Juliet, you will be completing a creative assignment where you modernize an
aspect of Romeo and Juliet. Your task is to choose one of the following creative options, but you MUST stay true
to the story line of Romeo and Juliet. You may work independently or with ONE other person. You may choose
from the following scenes, or another scene of your choosing, as long as you check with Ms. Kirk first:
o The Fight scene in Act I, Scene I between the servants
o The Party scene
o The Nurse and Juliet scene
o The Fight scene between Romeo, Mercutio, and Tybalt
o The Death Scene
You MUST turn in the worksheet that goes with the option you chose!
Option 1: Rewrite one scene from Romeo and Juliet using texting format and in modern English. If you use any
abbreviations, you MUST include a “translation” guide that gives the translation for ALL abbreviations used.
Option 2: Create a cartoon for one scene from The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Your cartoon must be at least
20 boxes in length. Dialog must be included in each box. You will not be graded on your artistic ability, but you
should have more than just stick figures. Make sure to include all characters from the storyline of the scene you
chose. Be sure to think about landscape and props used in the scene.
Option 3: Write a modern interpretation (not in texting form) of one of the scenes. You should write a script (at
least three typed, double-spaced pages) that you will then act out. You must incorporate costumes, music, and
props in each scene. Then, you will film your scene. You can use whatever format you would like, but make sure it
plays in the DVD player in the classroom or on YouTube. You MUST make sure this works ahead of time before
the actual due date of the project.
Option 4: Rewrite a monologue or soliloquy (the speech of one person) as a blog, series of blog entries, or
tweets written in modern English. If you write it as a blog, be sure to include links to other web pages that fit with
your character/ the scene, comments from other characters, etc. If done on Twitter, be sure to tag other
characters in your tweets and use hashtags where appropriate. You should include at least 5 links (or hashtags)
and 5 interactions with other characters. If you do this option, you will need to send the link to the Wordpress,
Facebook, Twitter, etc. account that you create.
Option 5: Imagine that you find a USB drive next to the computer of one of the characters from the play. This
USB contains personal documents- letters, “to do” lists, data, poems, etc. that are written by the character for his
or her eyes only. Decide on 10 documents, recreate them, invent file names for them and create a table of
contents. Put all the files together in a packet about the character, including the table of contents. These MUST be
typed.
Option 6: Choose one of the characters from the story and create a playlist (15 songs) that the character would
have on his or her iPod. Invent the name of the playlist, and create a list of the names of songs, artists, and
albums the songs came from, and other relevant details. You must include all of the lyrics to the songs along with
a CD that you burned all of the songs onto (or, you can create a playlist in YouTube and send Mrs. Kirk the link –
she just needs to be able to hear the song, if necessary). Your reflection must include a written explanation of
why each song is on the playlist and tie those to a quote from the play.
Option 7: If you have another idea for how to present information about Romeo and Juliet in a creative way, ask
Ms. Kirk if your idea is appropriate!
DUE: THURSDAY, MARCH 17
Because this is the last day before Mrs. Kirk leaves, NO LATE projects will be accepted.
PLAN ACCORDINGLY and use the time given to you in class!
