Intern Ultrasound Block Objectives: 1. Become familiar with the basics of using the ultrasound machines available at UH 2. Learn how to record images 3. Develop a basic knowledge of performing and interpreting FAST, AAA, RUQ, and OB ultrasound Requirements: 1. Prior to the start of your rotation, watch the FAST, AAA, RUQ, and OB ultrasound videos on the AccessEmergencyMedicine website (available through either the LSU library or the LSU EM residency webpage). 2. Meet with either Dr. Butts or Dr. Piazza prior to the start of your rotation to go over the basics of using the ultrasound and to answer any questions regarding ultrasound or the rotation itself (this is your responsibility to schedule this meeting). 3. Be present in the ED every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8am to 12pm to perform ultrasound 4. Record your studies and keep a log (attached) 5. Perform a minimum of studies as detailed below: a. FAST 10 b. RUQ 10 c. AAA 10 d. OB 5 6. Meet with Dr. Butts at the conclusion of your rotation to review your recorded studies and turn in your log (you will not get credit for your rotation until this step is complete).
