IEAA Newsletter August 2000 President’s Report Submitted by Dennis Epplin Serving as IEAA President continues to be an interesting and enjoyable challenge. I wish that there was more time available to devote to the many projects and events that deserve attention. Membership IEAA had 57 paid members at the membership deadline earlier this year. This is up from last year, but we have more work to do. NACAA reported 4176 members, the highest number since 1995. Illinois Agricultural Legislative Roundtable I represented IEAA at the June 28, 2000 IL Agricultural Legislative Roundtable. This event is hosted semi-annually by the Illinois Farm Bureau. Nearly all state farm organizations and commodity groups participate and attempt to establish consensus on state and national issues affecting agriculture. These groups consistently look to the University of Illinois College of ACES and Extension to serve as a lead institution in research and education. Committee Leadership Please work with Vice President Morrison on the IEAA Committee leadership assignments. We need your help and all 57 members should be active in some phase of committee work. Organizational membership is basic, however committee participation is the lifeblood of this association. AM/PIC Jackson, MS August 6-10 A total of 39 IEAA members, life members, spouses, children, an Extension Administrator, and a National Donor from Illinois are pre-registered. We look forward to learning about Mississippi agriculture and enjoying their hospitality. Speaking of hospitality, John van Es will be representing University of Illinois Extension at the AM/PIC. John has indicated that he wishes to continue the great tradition of “state’s night out.” We have determined Tuesday evening as the best time and will be selecting a restaurant for this dinner activity. Reservations will be needed, please indicate your participation to one of the officers by Monday morning. IEAA Fall Meeting It looks like the North has done a great job in planning a super Fall Meeting. Remember to make you reservations and join the group at the White Pines State Park near Oregon on September 18 & 19, 2000. Vice-President’s Report Submitted by James Morrison National Clover Symposium Held During NACAA AM/PIC A National Clover Symposium will be held on Sunday, August 6 from 1:30pm to 5:30pm at the Crowne Plaza, Windsor I and II. A team of noted Extension forage specialists and industry personnel will be making the presentation. There is no charge to participate and handout material will be provided. IEAA Committee Leadership Assignments Needed!! The NACAA Board decided this winter that all state committees will go in effect at the conclusion of the AM/PIC. So, we need to establish IEAA committee assignments-members and chair. A form indicating State Committee Chairs needs to be returned at the end of the AM/PIC. Here are the IEAA standing committees: Program Recognition Council Professional Improvement Council Extension Development Council Resource and Program Development Council (formerly called "policy") Life Member Committee- Larry Casey to chair, replacing Bob Edgar We need your involvement to keep IEAA moving.
