Purpose of Award
The purpose of the IPFW Featured Faculty Award for Engagement Excellence is to recognize
sustained engagement with the community.
Carnegie defines engagement “as collaboration between institutions of higher education and their
larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of
knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.”
This award recognizes the diverse paths engagement may follow. Faculty members selected for this
prestigious award demonstrate extraordinary and sustained dedication to engagement with the
community.
Nature of Award
The intent of the IPFW Featured Faculty for Engagement Excellence Award is to recognize faculty
who have an ongoing record of engagement excellence and who embody exemplary contributions
to the community.
Recipients of the IPFW Featured Faculty Award for Engagement Excellence receive a $1,000 stipend
and will be recognized at convocation and honored at a campus reception. Featured Faculty will
deliver a presentation to the IPFW campus community in March, 2016.
Eligibility
All Featured Faculty Award candidates must be full-time faculty members. The following categories
of full-time faculty are eligible for this award:
 Tenured/tenure track
 Clinical track
 Continuing lecturers
Criteria
Award recipients will be selected based on the following criteria.
Purpose – Is the goal(s) fully described and explained? What need existed for the partner
organization(s)? What is the economic, societal, or cultural context of the identified
need? How was the partnership(s) established?
Scholarly Resources – What is the scholarly context of the engagement? What skills,
knowledge, and resources did the faculty bring to the partnership(s)? How are the
needs of the partner organization understood within the perspective of the faculty
member’s academic discipline? How were the challenges of the collaboration
intellectually compelling?
Engagement process – What did you do? Describe the extent and duration of the
partnership(s). What was your role? Were students involved? If so, how were students
engaged in the partnership(s)?
Outcomes – Was the purpose achieved? Do the outcomes add substantively to the
partner(s)’ growth and potential success? Have additional areas of collaboration been
opened as a result?
Documentation/Communication/Dissemination – How have the outcomes been
documented? Has that documentation been made public? Have the outcomes been
shared beyond the partner organization?
Reflection – Please reflect on this engagement experience. Has the work been critically
evaluated by the partners and if so, how? How has this experience impacted your
professional development and/or plans?

A. Faculty member can self-nominate or may be nominated by another individual.
B. The application/nomination package consists of:
a. Featured Faculty Award for Engagement - Application File
i. Cover page with nominee/Nominator Information - attached
ii. Application narrative addressing criteria – 2400 – 3000 words; pdf
b. Additional Supporting Documentation as appropriate (as attachment to application
file)
Time line:
o Deadline for applications/nominations: February 1
o Review by accomplished by Feature Faculty for Engagement Excellence Selection
Committee: February 15th
o Award announced and presented: March
o Questions regarding the award and its criteria should be addressed to
the Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning
Selection Process
The Feature Faculty for Engagement Excellence Selection Committee will choose the recipient. The
committee consists of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning and representatives
from four different colleges/schools.
