Wear solid black dance attire. Applications and teacher recommendations are required
only for Dance Production and Ascension candidates. All applications including teacher
recommendations are due to Mrs. Peterson at Skyline High School by Friday, May 6th
2016.
PHYSICALS ARE NOT REQUIRED
*All Dancers must attend the qualification auditions Monday or Tuesday
to receive a call back to be qualified for these auditions. Packets available:

Dance Production and Ascension
Audition Schedule 2016
Be punctual to all scheduled audition events. “Early is on time and on time is late.”
Friday. May 6th by 3:30 pm
Teacher recommendations, application, parent consent form and grade report due to
Mrs. Peterson. It can be dropped off or mailed to Skyline High Dance 845 S. Crismon
Rd. Mesa, Arizona 85208. Applicants receive an “on time” score for these materials.
Monday May 9th-Tuesday May 10th -Technical evaluation and
call back pre-qualification-Dance Room #711
Candidates will demonstrate technique through ballet barre, center floor work and jazz
progressions across the floor (turns, kicks, and jumps) during class or after school.

Results will be posted on Mrs. Peterson’s web page at mpsaz.org/skyline.
Dancers will be judged on choreographic skills, technique, musicality, knowledge, and
performance. In addition, Production and Ascension Dance Company candidates will be
evaluated through teacher recommendations and progress report grades.
Ascension Dance Company Auditions
Mission Statement and Ascension objectives:
 Promote positive self-esteem and build confidence
 Give a sense of belonging to a community and teach teamwork
 Teach self discipline and accountability
 Give dancers a creative outlet for self expression
 Challenge the devoted and talented dancer
Positions Available: There is not a set quota to be reached. Members will be chosen on
the natural break in scoring based on talent, technical skill,
confidence, attitude, performance, choreography, GPA, &
recommendations. The audition will determine if at your current
state you would be best placed in Beginning, Intermediate,
Advanced, Production or Ascension Dance Co.
Eligibility:
For Ascension
Dance Co. Only
All applications must meet the following requirements:
1. Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
2. Must be passing all classes.
3. Completed application including all teacher recommendations
should be received by Friday, May 6th, 2016 and will account for
a punctuality score. All paperwork must be received by May 10th in
order to be eligible for Ascension.
Skyline Sports:
Ascension is a full year contract that requires dancers to rehearse
during 6th hour and after school Monday through Thursday from
3:00-4:15 throughout the school year. Because of the high demands
on Ascension company members, they will not be able to participate
in 6th hour/after school sports.
Auditions:
Behavior at auditions will count towards the candidates score. Dancers
must be punctual and participate in all audition dates (see the attached
schedule). All candidates must wear a dark leotard or long dark tank (no
bellies showing) and dance shorts, tights or black leggings for auditions.
Long hair must be worn up and back off face. No jewelry of any kind may be
worn.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
Your son/daughter is interested in auditioning for Ascension Dance Company. Before your child
can be considered for our team, a parent or guardian must read through the following notes,
understanding the terms for membership for Ascension Dance Company and return the bottom
portion to Mrs. Peterson by May 6th 2016.
Skyline High School’s Ascension Dance Company
Because Ascension is a team that represents Skyline High School, Ascension members
are held to high standards. Becoming a member of Ascension is not a right, it is a
privilege that must be earned and maintained throughout the year. Members will be
expected to maintain the following guidelines throughout the school year.
A big portion of your child’s score is based on paperwork that evaluates characteristics
that are essential for working on a high performance team. Your child received a packet
of information that lists the paperwork that must be received for Ascension eligibility.
The packet gives record of your student’s grades, teacher recommendations and
accountability. Late receipt or insufficient scores on the required Ascension Dance
Company paperwork will result in disqualification for auditions for the Dance Company.
The following items should be received by May 6th and will account for a punctuality score.
All paperwork must be received by May 10th in order to be eligible for Ascension.




Dance Production members are often called upon as understudies and apprentices for Ascension dance
company members. Dance Production is a school supported team thus Dance Production members will
be under a contract of expectations. Members will be held accountable for grades when participating in
various extra-curricular events therefore, teacher recommendations and grade reports are a requirement
for auditions for both Dance Production and Ascension candidates.
