Each supported graduate student will have a desktop computer intstalled in their office. This computer is not to leave the Mathematics building. Your password will be m!#########, where the ######### is your USC ID. This is the only USC issued alpha-numeric ID that starts with a capital letter. If you are having trouble logging in, or have issues regarding you university email account, attempt to reset the password on Blackboard before seeking further assistance. There is a print quota of 350 pages per semester for math and statistics TAs, 150 pages per semester for grad/undergrad math and statistics students that have paid the lab fees RETURN TO TOP Scanning Information If you are looking to scan a document to make a PDF there are two options available to you. 1. There is a HP digital sender in room 316. That allows you to scan and email you the document in PDF format. 2. There is a scanner in the printer room 316. This can be used with the Adobe Acrobat Software to create your PDF. Here are some directions on how to use the scanner Word version | pdf version. It can also be used to scan other things as well (ie. pictures). RETURN TO TOP Lab Information Lab Locations & Hours: LeConte 102 8:00am - 5:00pm M - F (Windows PCs) LeConte 303A 8:00am - 5:00pm M - F (Windows PCs) LeConte 316 8:00am - 5:00pm M - F (Linux PCs) LeConte 401 8:00am - 5:00pm M - F (Windows PCs) 102 & 401 are reserved only for Math 141 and Math 142 Classes. You can sign-up to reserve the other available labs in the Math IT office (417). Printers for each lab will mount themselves. Email help@math.sc.edu if you cannot find the nearest printers. For a list of software available in the LeConte Labs please click here. RETURN TO TOP Printing Information In order to print from the Workstations in the PC Labs, you need to connect to a printer. To connect a printer: 1. In the Start Menu, select "Printers and Faxes". 2. Click "Add Printer". 3. In the Add Printer Wizard, click "Next", then select "Network Printer," and click "Next" again. 4. Select "Connect to this printer". In the "Name" field, type one of the following: For Leconte 102, type \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p102a type \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p124a type \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p303a1 or \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p102b For Leconte 124, or \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p124b For Leconte 303A, For Leconte 316, type or \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p303a2 \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p316 For Leconte 401, type \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p401a or \\comathadam.ds.sc.edu\p401b 5. Click "Next". 6. Answer "yes" to the question "Do you want to make this your default printer?" 7. Click "Next" 8. Click "Finish" If you receive an error message stating that you don"t have sufficient privilege to install a printer because a local driver must be installed, email help@math.sc.edu. Be sure to include your login name and the machine name that you are having problem. To print from the Linux Lab in room 316 you'll need to know a couple of commands (depending on what kind of document you are trying to print). PostScript & Text Files: lp -d printername filename PDF Files: acroread filename Then use Adobe Acrobat Reader to print the pdf file (File -> Print) DVI Files: dvips -P printername file.dvi *Note: TAs/GAs when you have to give tests/quizes/homework only print out one copy and put in work request at the main office. You are not allowed to upload or download any illegal software, video, audio, books and photoes. BitTorrent traffic will be specifically targeted in LeConte. If you are using your personal laptop temporarily, please close or unintall BitTorrent. You are not allowed to use LeConte computers or networks for your personal business. RETURN TO TOP Spam Information Spam has been an increasing problem for most users, so don't think that it's just you. There is something you can do so that you won't see as much Spam. You can create a filter or message rule to move the Spam from your Inobx to a different folder. If you do not currently have virus protection installed on your computer. Symantec Endpoint Protection or Microsoft Security Essentials software are free-of-charge for faculty, students, and staff. It can be download from http://my.sc.edu/ . We do not provide Department or fund number for any personal downloads. If you have difficulty in downloading Symantec Endpoint Protection or Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus software, please email us. Virus assistance is available by e-mailing the helpline at help@math.sc.edu. Please make sure to include room number and PC name along with a brief description of what the problem is.
