Accessing GIL
• GIL can be searched either on or offcampus without a password.
• At a library workstation, click on the icon
for GIL.
• Outside the library, point your Web browser
to:
http://gil.uga.edu

Searching for
• A book by title?
• Books written by an author?
• The location of a journal?
Then try:
the “Title/Author/Subject” search
At the “Title/Author/Subject” screen,
select the type of search
To find the book

Leave off initial articles such as
an, a, the, la, el, der

Click on the “Search” button

Click on the title for more information.

and a link by call number to “virtually
browse” the shelves

If the book is charged out, you may place
a recall request.

Print or save either one book, the entire
list, or marked items.
To mark items:
At the bottom of each screen are several
different options for printing and saving.
“Save to disk” formats results for either
printing or saving.

Finding a book by author

Results: all the Stephen Kings.
Click on the one with 43 books.
…and bring up a list of books by him.
Back at the author list: “See also”
Clicking on that brings up books that
Stephen King wrote under a pseudonym.

magazine, or newspaper)

Clicking on “also available online”
brings up the full-text of the journal.

Try “Precision Search”
With Precision Search, build a search
step-by-step.
