LSA meeting minutes, May 11, 2007
Present: Viki Timian, Mikey Swacha, Jason Hasty, Chandra Jackson, Julie Dyles, Renna
Tuten, Anne Devine, Deb Raftus, Diana Hartle, Emily Luken
Business discussed:
--The Animal Welfare drive is underway. Recipients this year are the
Madison/Oglethorpe animal shelter, the Athens Clarke County Humane Society, and
Campus Cats. For more information, see the display in the Main Library lobby.
--Diana reported on the results of the survey conducted concerning LSA’s charitable
activities and service projects.
--Animal organizations were #1 on the list of preferred recipients of charitable
donations
--The Northeast Georgia Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity were the top picks
for an LSA service project. Diana will contact Habitat for Humanity for details
on a possible date this Fall for LSA to participate. She will also contact the Food
Bank for details on volunteering with them.
--A suggestion was made to publish a summary of LSA’s charitable activities
annually, in the LSA newsletter.
--Bake Sale: LSA has registered to participate in Share Our Strength’s Great American
Bake Sale; a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit organizations campaigning to end
childhood hunger in America. LSA’s bake sale will take place Thursday, June 14, at both
the Main and Science libraries. For more information on the Great American Bake Sale,
go to:

--Report on the Student Appreciation Luncheon and the Ice Cream Social
--The Ben & Jerry’s ice cream was very popular. LSA will consider using
them in the future.
--Emily reported that, with the addition of the fruit and veggie trays, less
pizza will be needed next year than in years past. The fruit and veggie trays
were very popular with the students.
--LSA Book Club: Georgia author Carson McCuller’s novel, The Heart is a Lonely
Hunter is the first book chosen for the LSA Book Club.
Committee reports:
--LSA purchased two Target gift cards last month (one Target baby gift card, one
gift/wedding card). We also purchased some general use greeting cards for future
occasions.
--A suggestion was made to create a general LSA feedback survey (similar to the
charitable activities/service project survey). More discussion will take place concerning
this suggestion.
