1. A Brief History and Account of the Department
Computer-based technologies are the foundation of modern life and as a University
Department we are proficient to contribute towards the advancement of the society
at large. We also ensure our sincere effort to offer the best in terms of academic
programmes, research activities and infrastructure including state-of-the-art
laboratories. The Department with the bright young and dynamic faculty members
attracts the best of students for its masters and doctoral programmes. We also aim at
bringing in excellent opportunities for active institute-industry interaction and
exchange programmes which will unquestionably help the students to excel in the
present competitive professional life.
Our vision is to create a vibrant learning environment founded on value based
academic principles that foster collaboration, a culture of accomplishment and
strong support of ethnic and intellectual diversity wherein all involved shall
contribute effectively, efficiently and responsibly .

4. Brief account of the major activities during 2012
Introduced the following two Academic Programmes in the Department :
1. MPhil in Computer Science
2. PhD in Computer Science
The following events were hosted.
In association with EMMRC organized a National Seminar-cum-workshop for
developing e-contents in Bioinformatics on 8th -9th August 2012.
As part of the industry interaction programme an invited talk was arranged on
“Software Engineering and PLM” by Mr.Bijuraj.B, Sr. Manger, 3DPLM Software
Solutions, Pune in the Department on 14th November 2012.
Celebration of the Allen Turing Centenary Year 2012 with an invited talk on “The
Computing Discipline” by Prof.(Dr.) Vineeth Paleri, Department of Computer Science &
Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Calicut on 13 th December 2012.
Workshop on National e-Governance Plan in association with Department of
Electronics and Information technology, Govt. of India and NeGP on 29 th December
2012.

Applications run by the Calicut University IT Mission Programme.

Dr.Lajish.V.L has worked as resource person and presented two lectures
(Digital Speech Processing – Part I & II) in the live transmission of
EDUSAT Programme on 6th and 7th December 2012.
