I wanted to explain the grading system I use for the spelling
dictation test we take on Fridays. The students are required to
write the sentences I dictate to them. The last sentence is
usually a sentence they make up themselves using a spelling
word.
Spelling words are worth 15 points total. I check the spelling
words in the sentence to make sure they are spelled correctly.
Conventions are worth 15 points total. Each sentence is worth 3
points.
1 point- capitalization
1 point- punctuation
1 point- Did they write down all the words in the
sentence?
Please continue to have your students study their spelling
words each night.
