Welcome
To
5th Grade!
2015-2016
Mrs. Davies
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to 5th grade! I am very excited about the upcoming school year! I have been
teaching elementary education for 13 years in Arizona. I am originally from New Jersey. I am
married to Jim and have 2 children, Bobby and Jenni. Thank you so much for the opportunity
to share my love of learning with your child! I am looking forward to our year of discovery
together.
Your child will be given paper and supplies that are required to fulfill the classroom
assignments. The following few items are optional for you to provide for the classroom:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Box of tissues
Extra #2, six-sided pencils (not mechanical)
2 black dry-erase markers (odor-free preferred)
Hand sanitizer
Sturdy pocket folder for homework (No binders, please; they are too large for
students’ desks.)
*Folders: Your child will be given pocket folders at school in an effort to keep papers neat and
orderly. Messy, torn papers will not be accepted and will need to be redone. Each child will be
given a new pencil once a month. Your child should have 2 or 3 extra pencils in his/her desk.
No mechanical pencils or toys will be allowed in the classroom.
*A reading book should be brought from home on the first day of school. There should be a
reading book in your child’s desk at all times for reading when class work is completed. If the
book is taken home after school, it must be brought back the next morning.
I am looking forward to working with you to ensure a positive and rewarding experience
for your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send a note (the
homework slips are great for this) or call me at school at 472-3931.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Davies

Homework
Homework is a vital part of your child’s academic success at
Franklin. It reinforces classwork, teaches responsibility, helps develop
good study habits, and may alert you to the fact that your child is
having difficulty with a particular concept.
Your child’s homework responsibilities include: filling out the homework assignment slip, doing
the best job possible, being neat, and completing all work before the beginning of the next school day.
Homework in fifth grade may take from 30 to 90 minutes to complete.
To help your child, please make homework a top priority at home by creating a quiet study place
and time. Please sign the homework assignment slip and include any comments/questions, if needed.
Your signature shows me that you saw the completed homework. If your child has difficulty due to a
lack of understanding, please note this on the homework slip. Graded papers and tests will be sent home
to you in a blue folder. Please review these papers and sign where indicated. Folders will not be sent
home just prior to parent conferences.
