Star Light, Star Bright Objective: Team building, Idea generating at the beginning of the semester Time: 15 minutes Prepare: Star activity sheets (see following page) Intro: This activity is based around the concept of “wishing on a star.” Ask students if they remember the poem, “Star Light, Star Bright.” Star Light, Star Bright, the first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might have the wish I wish tonight. Explain that this Instructions: 1. Explain that they are going to use the star handout to identify what they “wish” to get out of this class (or whatever else your topic is – a blank has been left on the worksheet where you can write or type they topic in). 2. Have students write one thing that they hope to do or get out of this class on each point of their star. If they can only think of one or two things, that’s acceptable, as long as they have something written. 3. When finished you can have them stand in a circle and state their wishes and put the star on the “floor sky.” If that is logistically difficult, have students bring them up to the whiteboard or wall to make the “sky on the board.” It doesn’t matter where or how the sharing takes place, as long as you students have the opportunity to contribute their ideas. Directions: On each point of the star write down __________________________________. After everyone is done “wishes” will be shared.
