Infant Car Seat Restraint System

The goal of this project is to modify child car seats by
developing a restraint system attachment in order to prevent
head and spinal injuries in infants.

Key Features: The project aims create a child safety belt
where the force-angle relation can be analyzed to
determine the optimal setting for a mechanism to best
protect an infant. The focus will be on forward facing
child car seats and rear impact crashes.
Project Deliverables:
•
Free Body Diagrams of head, neck, full body with car
seat and corresponding equations for each FBD
•
CAD Drawings of attachment device, device assembled
to car seat restraint system, all including multiple views
•
Actual modification to car seat (attachment to restraint
system) with corresponding sled testing data, sled
testing data compared to original car seat data.
