This I Believe

Your essay will be due on TurnItIn and you must also submit a hardcopy to me in class.
Note: Each school day that your essay is late will result in a loss points.
You will write a compelling essay about something that you feel strongly about. This will be
an essay that you, and only you, can write based on your life experiences. The essay should
be at least 4 paragraphs in length, but always feel free to write more. Each paragraph should
contain 4-8 sentences. If you find that you are experiencing writer’s block, take a break and
listen or read a few which can be found on ThisIBelieve.org. Standard rules of written
English will apply.
Tell a Story
Be specific. Consider moments when your belief was formed, tested, or changed. Think of
your own experience, school, work, and family, and tell of the things you know and no one
else does. Your story need not be heart-wrenching or gut-wrenching- it can even be funny –
but it should be real. Make sure your story ties to the essence of your daily life philosophy
and the shaping of your beliefs.
Be Positive
Tell me what you do believe, rather than what you do not believe. Make your essay about
you, so in this case you may use first person.
