To Kill a Mockingbird Essay
 You will write an essay as the culminating assignment for our study of
Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.
 Your essay must be submitted through the program, TurnItIn. Details will
be explained in class.
 Choose any topic from the sheet provided. You must also include at least one
direct quote from the novel as well as the page number that the quote
appears on. Your quote must include quotation marks. You are welcome to
include more than one quote.
 Come up with a compelling thesis statement: Pick your best idea and pin it
down in a clear assertion that you can write your entire essay around. Your
thesis is your main point, summed up in a concise sentence that lets the
reader know where you're going, and why. It's practically impossible to
write a good essay without a clear thesis.
 Each paragraph must be 4-8 sentences in length. Be sure to include an
introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You are always
welcome to write more than the minimum 4 paragraphs. Remember to
avoid plot summary!
