DEPARTMENT PHILOSOPHY In line with The American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages and NYS Board of Regents, the Foreign Language Department of Saint Francis Prep has undertaken the task of applying the most current standards to our daily instruction in the classroom. We focus on communication as our main method of instruction, and reading, listening, and writing and culture as other goals in the teaching of foreign language here at SFP. COURSE OBJECTIVES - Learn how to communicate in Italian (speaking) - Develop knowledge of Italian culture - Strengthen ability to write in Italian - Be able to read and comprehend short passages in Italian - Greatly improve listening comprehension - Watch and learn about certain Italian languages films and the actors, themes and their historical context in Italian society - Create meaningful and interesting projects and presentations to teach the class something you have learned about a topic REQUIRED MATERIALS - A notebook - A folder for packets - Ipad charged daily for taking notes (if you have one) GENERAL RULES OF Italian 3: 1. No phone use in class unless authorized by teacher 2. Respect the teacher, other students and yourself 3. No cursing or offensive language 4. No playing games, iMessaging, or other inappropriate use of iPad in class. This includes taking photos and videos (unless authorized) 5. Remain seated until the bell rings 6. No eating or drinking (other than water) in class 7. If you miss a class it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to schedule a makeup exam with the teacher. Email me or let me know beforehand if you will be out for any reason. * If rules 1-6 are broken there will be consequences for your actions * GRADING Quarterly grades will be calculated according the average of all tests, projects and assignments, but are subject to vary/change depending on schedule and content within each quarter: Communication Tests Projects Written Exams In class assignments * There will be NO FINAL EXAM. Therefore, your final grade shall be computed by dividing all four quarters plus the FLACS Exam * Your final grade will be calculated according to the following Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 FLACS exam 20% 20 % 20 % 20% 20%
