EXPECTATION OF THE COUNCIL (continued)
The principal shall provide the council with appropriate information and assist the
council in staying within its legal bounds as an advisory committee.
The council shall operate within current Arizona Revised Statutes and Mesa Schools
Policies and Procedures.
The SuperVision 2000 Council shall evaluate its efforts by obtaining feedback and
comments from the school and the community.
COUNCIL SELECTION
Council nomination forms shall be made available in the Irving School office and may be
used as either:
1. A self-nomination form; or
2. A nomination form to be completed by another qualified person, but must be
signed by the person being nominated to indicate acceptance of the nomination
Elections for staff/teacher/parent representatives will be held by secret ballot. Ballots shall
be cast in an election area in the Irving School office. A record of qualified voters shall be
tracked during balloting to ensure one ballot per eligible voter. A qualified voter is a parent
or legal guardian of an Irving student or a certified or classified employee of Irving
Elementary School. Each parent or guardian or staff member shall have one (1) vote.
Parents may only vote for parents, certified staff members may only vote for certified staff
members, and classified staff members may only vote for classified staff members. The
election shall be advertised at least ten (10) days prior to the voting and voting will run for
three (3) consecutive school days.
All nomination form distribution, candidate introduction, and voting shall be held before
the end of April and the Council will be elected and ready to begin meeting by the month
of May.
During the Council's first year of existence (1994-1995), one-half of the Council shall
serve a one-year term of office and one-half of the Council shall serve a two-year term of
office. In the case where there is just one elected position, that position shall be elected on
a yearly basis. After this first election, all Council members shall be elected to two- year
terms, with the exception of the Irving Parent Teacher Organization President,
which shall be elected yearly.
