Edison is working to set the expectation of college readiness with our
students. Many of them are limited in their scope of who they know that goes to college
and even less know someone that has graduated beyond our site staff.
Our fifth grade students are our AVID crew this year as we become an AVID campus.
One of our traditional activities is to host Camp Sparky at Edison to have our students
get to know and work with college students.
Camp Sparky was at Edison on October 31, 2014. This was a terrific day for our 5th
grade students. Camp Sparky’s mission is to inspire youth to love learning and have
confidence in their future success. The Camp Sparky leaders encouraged our 5 th
graders to pursue higher education. They talked to the students about college life and
answered many questions our 5th graders had. In addition, the leaders led the students
in several fun activities, including crafts, songs and outdoor games.
