ATTACHMENT B WORK PROPOSAL FOR ANNUALLY APPOINTED FACULTY ROLE DESIGN Authors: Amy Bosley, Wendi Dew, and Suzette Dohany 1. Date: 11/16/15 Background Valencia made a significant commitment to non-tenure earning faculty roles in 2013-2014 when 64 temporary faculty contracts were converted to annual appointments. Since that time, the College has added additional Annual Appointment faculty lines (including some 12-month contracts for New Student Experience faculty). In 15-16, the College employs 93 faculty in on an annual contract. At the time the positions were converted from temporary, four-month temporary contracts, the attached job description was created for the role and the Workload for Professors policy and procedure was updated to reflect the new classification, role, and responsibilities. Several key items need to be addressed to complete the role design and implementation including: 1. Review of compensation system: annually appointed faculty are paid the same salary as a vestige of the four-month temporary compensation system. 2. Design of faculty onboarding experience: annually appointed faculty do not participate in the pre-tenure teaching and learning academy process. As faculty with a significant teaching responsibility, an onboarding program should be designed to ensure mastery of the Essential Competencies of a Valencia Educator. 3. Design of ongoing professional development programs: annually appointed faculty are eligible only for the associate faculty status and additional compensation for courses taught above the base load. They are not eligible for the professional development incentive program for tenured/tenure-track faculty. 4. Design of an annual evaluation process: annually appointed faculty do not have a role-specific annual evaluation process. 2. Charge and Work Products The work team will produce recommendations in each of the following areas; 1. Annually Appointed faculty compensation system 2.
