Spoke to David and asked him to track time spent on the project. This will be billed. b. Lindsay will give us a LanTronix box to replace SYSTec system. We will use LANTronix for testing. ToolTime: Is a Unix tool box that we are setting up for operational use. This will allow us to create scripts, and other programs without affecting our production server. What I want to accomplish is to separate equipment being outside the department from equipment that only NTS would use. The equipment that we use changes often to accommodate different tools/scripts used for network troubleshooting. a. We are looking at NOCMan (RedHat) to get a baseline for our equipment. b. Total cost for NOCMan is $1,000.00 yr. SOE2: Rich sat down with Mike and Russ to come to an agreement on Tech. assistance needed for the Engineering Bldg. Russ will get Technician to assist Neil with acceptance testing. (Rich, Russ) a. SOE2: Bids are in for the fiber between SOE1 and SOE2 we are waiting on word from Bob Vitale on how they will fund. b. The first resume review date is set for 7/7/04 (Rich)(Wednesday 7/7/04). Layer 2 project: This project will allow us to know when switches re-converge and give us the ability to track down switches that have been mis-configured. This otherwise known as the rootbridge project. a. Robert has created a program that will show us all of the root bridges. In other word what spanning tree is doing on Layer 2. David and Doug removed RSTP from our remaining switches and currently we have no convergence issues anywhere. b. This is terrific news. All that is left is for Mark and David to fire up VLAN1 (David, Doug, Mark) (Completion Date: 07/31/04) Admin Database Audit: The audit is nearly complete new equipment is being added to the DB and old equipment is being removed. Dave, Doug Paul and Joe have been instrumental in completing this project. Also Marcy has worked on DB issues with Mike to assist with the project. (Doug, Joe, Dave, Paul, Marcy, Mike) (Completion Date: 07/31/04) a. We are working on a letter to all those affected by the audit to give them an opportunity to disconnect unused jacks before billing. WAN T1: Moves are complete (Michael)(Remove 07/12/04). Site Hardening: Doug and Dave put new fiber in between the 1st floor and 2nd floor and moved head end of the network to the 1.1 from the 2.1. They also installed three new HP 4000’s, and home ran all of jacks in the closets to their respective switches. All that is left is cut over the last part of the network from the old service by moving to the new fiber. Then all that is left is Data Base work. (Completion Date: 8/28/04) IC Readdress: We have asked IC for a FOPAL to start the work. After discussing this at the last Engineering meeting, and not getting any real objections I decided to readdress IC. NASA 555: We need to purchase a terminal server and PDU for NASA Bldg. 555. This will allow us to access the equipment remotely, and to power cycle equipment as needed. If we do not do this we will need to dispatch a vehicle each time we need to power cycle. (David) (Completion Date: 08/23/04) a. Do we want to purchase spare equipment for NASA. This topic will be discussed at the next Engineering meeting. WAN Write-up: David is going to write-up what we need for off campus locations in the future. Primarily a Terminal Server and a PDU to remotely manage devices to save us from rolling a van. (David) (Completion Date: 07/28/04) AIS Readdress: Will need to readdress yet again. This underscores the need to give units room to expand their network when assigning IP’s. (David) (Completion Date: 10/21/04) OM Shell: Tells us the state of the DHCP server by logging in from its partner’s server (other DHCP server), and looking at daemon. We will also use SiteScope (plugs into HPOV) to monitor memory, CPU etc… (Robert). Crown-Merrill DS: Issue for Engineering Meeting is if we want to split or combine Crown-Merrill when we replace the DS. (David/Rich) (Completion Date: 07/13/04) Lindey Leave: Requested an extension until Jan 04, and it was approved. We will hire Joe Owens as a casual until his return. SBC Cable Removal: Rich worked with PP&C to resolve issue with the in-fill SBC removal request that was given to Russ three years ago. He met with Kevin and was given alternatives to the removal of SBC. We still plan on removing the cable for future growth, but this will not delay the In-Fill Apartments. (Rich) (Completion Date: 07/20/04) b. At Cowell we had so many problems that we had to stop inspecting the project and give it back to PP&C. Quote Procedure: We need to discuss the importance of giving quotes to Marcy before they are sent to the end-user. Marcy will format the quote and check with everyone involved to make sure all of the equipment needed is in the quote, and that everyone involved in the project will be able to do their part in the time specified. a. Rich to work on Policy for submitting quotes, and will give to Tad for review. Housing Time Clock Project: The contractor’s portion of this project is completed, insofar as the original project deliverables. Housing wants to now start phase 2 of the project which will install networked computer kiosks in each dining hall kitchen area, to offer employee information on a housing intranet.
