4. Typically, PhD students from existing exchange partners will apply to the Study Abroad Postgraduate Research
programme and PhD students from non-exchange partners will apply for the Visiting Research Scheme. Incoming
postdoctoral researchers should contact the department to be registered through the Visiting Appointment Scheme.
SECTION D: SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS DETAILING YOUR PROPOSED ACTIVITIES
Please note that applications from doctoral students will not be considered where the main purpose of the visit is to undertake
fieldwork or collect data specifically for a PhD.
Please confirm that you have attached the following supporting documents:
a personal statement detailing why you have chosen King’s, with specific reference to how your visit will positively
impact upon the relationship between King’s and your home university.
a proposal detailing the activities you intend to carry out at King’s and how they link to one (or more of King’s
Interdisciplinary Global Themes of Global Health, Defence and Security, Sustainable Cities, Culture and Identity)
an academic reference printed on headed university paper from your current PhD supervisor / Head of Department,
stating the main purpose of your trip and how it will be beneficial to the relationship between the two partner
institutions.
PLEASE SEND YOUR APPLICATION FORM AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AT LEAST THREE MONTHS IN ADVANCE OF
YOUR INTENDED VISIT, BY EMAIL TO: Studyabroad@kcl.ac.uk
Please note that an application will only be processed once ALL supporting documentation has been received.
Confirmation of the level of support awarded will be sent to you prior to your trip. You must not commence any visit
until you have received formal written approval.
