Note that this document will be two pages AFTER the Replace is finished. Be sure to examine the
headers and footers.
The Edit menu Replace command should be used to Replace all of the occurrences of a space
in the above paragraph with the paragraph marker or hard return. After you do this, the 20
word paragraph will snowball into 20 separate lines, becoming 20 paragraphs.

The Find, Replace, and Go To commands are useful in Word 97. Below here is a snapshot of
the Edit menu Replace command dialog box.

Be sure to select the red paragraph first. Remember the triple click shortcut. Be sure to
select only the red paragraph words. If you triple click anywhere inside the paragraph, the
entire paragraph will be highlighted.

You will need to do the More button in the Find and Replace dialog box.

Then do the Special button, at least for the Paragraph symbol that you want to replace the
single space with.

Note that the More button becomes a Less button, if you have already expanded the dialog
box to show More.
6.
After you have expanded the snowball sentence to 20 paragraphs, select all 20 words of the
sentence and change the font to Arial or to Times New Roman. What happened?
Press the space bar once, when
this Find what textbox has the
focus.
Change this from All to Up.

1. View menu Header/Footer command should be used. Look at the Header and then
the Footer for this document. Then look at the Page Setup dialog box (by using the
Page Setup button on the Header and Footer toolbar).
2. How do you make the Header and/or Footer different for the 1st page of a document?
3. Look under the File menu, Page Setup command. The Layout folder of that dialog
box has the different 1st page option for Headers/Footers.
4. Select and then act is the philosophy of Windows and GUI programs. Try double
clicking on any word in this document. What happens?
5. Try triple clicking inside any paragraph of this document? What happens?
6. Try single clicking to the left of the word number 6 at the start of this line. What
happened? What was the shape of your mouse pointer when it was to the left of 6?
7. Hold down the Control key (Crtl) and single click to the left of the number 7 at the
start of this line. What is that Ctrl + click apparently a shortcut for?
8. Pull down the Edit menu and look at the Select All command. What is a shortcut you
could use for the Edit menu Select All command that would avoid the need to use the
mouse in any way? Try that keyboard shortcut for Select All.
9. Try Ctrl + click on different sentences in this document. What does Ctrl + click cause
to happen, when you are clicking on the text in a document?
