PART II: PLUS PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The philosophy of the PLUS program asserts that learning is effectively facilitated as a dynamic, interactive,
social process of constructing meaning. As such, the effective facilitator applies research-based principles of
group development and learning theory within the context of a targeted at-risk undergraduate course. A
learning community model demands faculty support and collaboration; thus, facilitators must clarify their role
as supportive to, not competitive with the professor. In essence, our main objectives for the program are: to
enhance the quality of undergraduate student scholarship; to assist students in achieving academic and career
goals; to offer college success tips and effective role-modeling; to provide a low-risk collaborative learning
environment; and to assist the university in retaining students through to graduation.
PART III: APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must submit a completed application, an unofficial transcript, a current resume, and provide
faculty endorsement from a faculty member who can speak to your abilities and/or character. Finalists will be
selected for an interview. If no positions in the One-on-One Tutoring program are available, applications will be
referred to the Tutor Coordinator, as well as be kept on file for one year from the date of submission and will be
considered for future openings.
