Bachelor of Economics with Honours Bachelor of Economics with Honours Abbreviation: BEc(Hons) Course code: C4E Course contact (faculty or school) (03) 6226 2825 Introductory comments This on-campus, 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time honours degree course is offered through the School of Economics at Hobart. In 2003 the School of Economics will offer, subject to student numbers, a separate honours program in Finance. Entry will be open to students who have completed a major in Finance at a sufficiently high standard of achievement. Students interested in this program should contact the Honours coordinator in the School of Economics. Admission & prerequisites Bachelor of Economics (or equivalent approved qualification) with a minimum of 65 average in four level 300 Economics units including BEA300, BEA320 and BEA303 or BEA304 (see Schedule A). Students are also expected normally to have passed BEA342. Course objectives The aim of the honours year is to enable students to develop their interests further and to provide a foundation for postgraduate study in Economics. Career outcomes The Bachelor of Economics (Hons) degree opens up many career opportunities and past graduates have established careers in a wide range of activities: Some examples include: central banking, commercial consulting, commercial banking, local government, administration, management, market research, merchant banking, political adviser, stockbroking and teaching. Course structure Candidates are required to complete four units of coursework and to write a dissertation under individual supervision. They may pursue either a single course of study in Economics or a joint course in Economics and a subject area from another department approved by the Faculty.
