Elections and Appointments Committee Meeting Agenda March 22nd, 2012 Conference Room 3:00 PM Chairman: Sen. Joel Versace I. Call To Order- 3:00 II. Roll Call- quorum is established with 7 voting members III. Approval of Minutes- Motion; Sen. Stromquist: to approve the minutes from March 5th, 2012, seconded, no objections, passes IV. Approval of Agenda- Motion; Sen. Bennett: to approve the agenda, seconded, no objections, passes V. Chairman Reports and Remarks- there are 4 appointments coming up today but there is only one seat in the senate, so we can only appoint one of them. VI. Guest Speakers VII. Old Business VIII. New Business IX. Appointments A. Anthony Tallie 1. Sen. Jones- “What sets you apart from the other candidates?” a. He tries to take an active role and make the students voices heard 2. Sen. Stromquist- “what is the most valuable thing you learned in senate?” a. Where to find resources and things that are helpful 3. Sen. Galanti- “what was your day of appointment?” a. Right after winter break but doesn’t remember the exact date 4. Sen. Galanti- “will you be here for the summer session?” a. yes 5. Sen. Stromquist- “if a club came to you for a travel request, what would you say?” a. You have to send them to the B&A chair and there is a bill that you have to do online 6. Sen. Galanti- “Can you name the 4 committees?” a. He named them all 7. Sen. Jones- “What committee did you serve on?” a. CSC B. Joseph Bass 1. Sen. Stromquist- “why didn’t you run in the election?” a. Has never seen the election in action and just wanted to watch it happen. 2. Sen. Galanti- “what was your day of appointment and will you be here over summer?” a. It was mid-January along with Anthony Tallie 3. Sen. Jones- “What sets you apart from the other candidates?” a. He takes his time to know that he is well versed 4. Sen. Stromquist- “what are your extenuating circumstances because student government takes up a lot of time?” a. He will have adequate time and the extenuating circumstances are the possible added responsibilities if he becomes a senator. 5. Sen. Cunningham- “what do you want to do as a senator?” a. He has a desire to see the students to generate their own income through the university C. Jason Fountain 1. Sen. Stromquist- “what was the most intriguing about attending the committee and senate meetings?” a. Seeing Roberts Rules in action 2. Sen. Galanti- “can you give me an example of how a senator can break Sunshine and South worth laws?” a. Sunshine law- any conversation before a meeting that discusses about how a senator will vote and persuade a senator to vote another way. South worth law- if you have an encounter with an entity seeking money from student government and you base your decision off of a prior experience instead of their presentation 3. Sen. Cunningham- “what aspirations do you have in student government?” a. He has the goal of getting the students voice heard in senate D. Richard Marks 1. Sen. Stromquist- “why didn’t you run in the election?” a. Did not have the time to do it 2. Sen. Stromquist- “will you have enough time if you were appointed?” a. yes 3. Sen. Galanti- “how much experience do you have in legislative?” a. 1 year 4. Sen. Stromquist- “what was your biggest contribution to senate in the past year?” a. Reinstating the Political science honor society 5. Sen. Cunningham- “what sets you apart from the other candidates?” a. The knowledge about student government 6. Sen. Stromquist- “how does reinstating the political science honor society help the student body?” a. They are starting a club for anyone to join that is interested in political science 7. Sen. Galanti- “what committee did you serve on?” a. CSC 8. Motion; Sen. Cunningham: for open discussion, seconded, no objections, discussion follows 9. Sen. Stromquist- they all can help out but appointee Fountain could do the best 10. Sen. Cunningham- she agrees with Sen. Stromquist but it is a tough decision between the candidates 11. Sen. Jones- Appointee Fountain will bring the most to senate 12. Sen. Galanti- has never seen the senator roster this full before but appointee Fountain will do the best job 13. X.
