Special Senate Meeting Agenda – January 4th – 6:00 PM – Senate Chambers
I.
Call to Order – Senate President Fassi called the meeting to order at 6:02pm.
II.
Pledge of Allegiance – Senator Barrs led the pledge of allegiance.
III.
Invocation – Senator Jones led the invocation.
IV.
Roll Call – Senate President Fassi called for an electronic roll call. Quorum was established with 30
voting members.
V.
Approval of Agenda – Motion by Senator Hebeishy, seconded. Approved unanimously. Senator
Raddell is in the room; quorum is now 31 members.
VI.
Guest Speakers / Student Remarks
a. Laurel Kendall – Student Government Advisor
i. Hello, happy new year! I’d like to recognize those student leaders who excelled during the fall
2011 term. We have your certificates signed by myself and Dr. Gonzalez. [Recognized students
at this time] Congratulations to the recipients! This has been the largest “class” since I’ve had
the opportunity to give the awards.

Senate President’s Remarks: Senate President Carlo Fassi – sgasp@unf.edu
i. Welcome back, I’m glad to see your faces for the spring semester. Statute dictates that we have
to meet on the first day of the semester. We have committee chair presentations. If you were
in B&A last semester, please stay for an emergency meeting after this. We have a basketball
game tonight and I expect to see each of you there!
VIII.
Executive Cabinet Confirmations
a. Billy Namen – Treasurer
1. Student Government President Brockelman presented Treasurer-designee
Namen and pointed out that he had already been hard at work getting ready for
budget hearings.
2. Motion to Confirm- Senator Versace. Motion was seconded. Motion passed 310-0.
b. Zahni “Z” Thuzar – Osprey Productions Office Assistant
1. OP Director Brent Fine- We’re trying to add a new position to OP; we’re doubling
the amount of events from last semester, so we need extra help. This is 15 hours

per week position. After doing interviews, we decided to bring in Zahni. She’ll be
vital helping coordinate our calendar with other university calendars as well as
organizing contracts and other paperwork. She’s updating our member database
with over 100 members. She maintains and updates our website.
2. Questions: Senate President Fassi- Where are Z’s wages coming from? Business
Manager McGuire- OP’s budget. Senator Galanti- what leadership qualities do
you possess? Z- I helped oversee some large-scale events, and I was a manager
for a pizzeria.
3. Motion to confirm- Senator Stromquist. Motion was seconded.
4. Discussion: Senator Bossa- I’ve seen Z everywhere; I think she’ll be great for this
position. Motion passed 31-0-0.
IX.
Legislative Cabinet Reports/Presentations
a. Senate President Pro-Tempore: Senator Lindsay Edwards – sgaspt@unf.edu
1. Passed out information sheet and explained the senate’s absence policy.
b. Elections and Appointments Committee: Chairman Joel Versace – sgaesac@unf.edu
1. Good evening. I don’t have a cool handout, but please lend me your ears. E&A is
managing and understanding Title VI, handling elections, and working through
appointments. If you’re up for election this semester, you can be on E&A but you
can’t serve on the Elections Commission. Committee meetings are at on 3pm
Mondays.
c. Student Advocacy Committee: Chairman Kyler Dykes – sgasac@unf.edu
1. This semester we’re doing Lighthouses, Finals Frenzy, and Golf cart giveaways.
There will be two days of Lighthouse per month, one day of giveaways per
month. I’ll send out the information in an email. Committee meetings are still
Mondays at 7pm.
d. Constitution and Statutes Committee: Chairwoman Yousra Hebeishy – sgacsc@unf.edu
1. Good evening, everyone. We got the majority of our constitutional work done
last semester. This semester we’re focusing on Title V and a constitutional
referendum that’s coming up on first read at the next senate meeting. Please
look at it when it comes up. Feel free to ask questions and make critiques. The
Title VI in your constitutions is inaccurate; I’ll have accurate ones for you on
Monday. CSC will still meet Mondays at 6pm.
e. Budget and Allocations Committee: Chairman Charles Galanti – sgabac@unf.edu
1. Good evening. B&A is the financial arm of the legislative branch. We hear special
and travel requests as well as allocate our A&S budget during hearings and
deliberations. Committee members cannot have class on Fridays during the
hearings. Regular meetings are at 4:30pm Mondays.
