Elections and Appointments Committee Meeting Agenda May 14th, 2012 Senate Chambers 3:00 PM Chairman: Sen. Joel Versace I. Call To Order Senator Versace calls meeting to order at 3:08 pm II. Roll Call 3 voting members are present. Quorum established. III. Approval of the Minutes Motion to approve minutes from April 2012. Minutes are approved. Motion to move new business before old business. New business moved. IV. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda of May 14 2012. Agenda approved. V. Chairman Report and Remarks Senator Versace states he will be taking a leave of absence for a trip to Puerto Rico. VI. Guest Speakers New Student Government Advisor, Katie Delaney, addresses the meeting. Reports that she has moved into her office and all are welcome to visit or stop by with VII. New Business A) SB-12S-2598 Senator Versace discusses the following changes to SB-12S-2598: Adding Chapter 617 for appointments to senate. Title 6 - To rid some definitions and forms of campaigning. 602- Declaration of Intent to be due two days prior to the last opportunity to make a meeting, that Thursday. The language of this rule will no longer state that the forms are due “20 days prior.” This change in language intends to help students be able to have the time to turn in forms as well as making the required meetings. 603.4 – To shift all appointments to appointees to Senate. 608 – Campaign Finances – Senator Versace wishes to un strike, but will wait until the end 611 B 2 – Does not specify whom – Senator Versace states the best person would be the Constitute Statutes Chair. This will clear up who is writing the brief statement. 615.7 – Senator Versace believes this should not be in title 6. 616.1 – “Election results may not be posted before president signs” – this is not true. Senator Versace explains results are disclosed during announcement and are signed into law by president. After results are announced, they are then posted in the spinnaker. 616.3 Instillation – change process “Shall assume all abilities and responsibilities” – wish to take away Motion to un strike 608.1. Discussion- to amend motion to saying “the candidate has right to appeal to elections courts in two days courts per the elections timeline.” No further discussion. Motion for unanimous consent. Senator Habichi states Definitions should be kept at the beginning for individuals to have a better understanding of what they are reading. Old Business A) Set dates for Fall Election Week 1 of fall semester is the week of August 20. Motion to open the floor for discussion. Second. Various dates and weeks are discussed. Chair will need to conduct meeting while Senator Versace is out of town. Senator Cardio expresses interest and agrees to Vice Chair position. IX. Appointments (Pending Completion of Applications) Brian Jones addresses the senators as to why he is interested in Student Government. States that he wants to help students and their concerns regarding parking, a better turnout for intramural sports and clubs, as well as bringing in a help committee for class registration. States he can bring organization to student government and has displayed leadership skills within the Sigma Chi fraternity. Brian Jones than answers questions from Senators. He explains that he would like to serve by working on finances and budget plans. He believes he could bring organization and follow through to student government. He would also like to bring more philanthropy to student government. He is looking to get experience of seeing how the budgeting and contracting works as well as being a voice of the students. Motion to confirm Brian Jones for Fall Senate Seat. Discussion: Senator Habichi hopes Jones is able to make time for Student Government but is looking forward to the contributions he can make Role Call vote: 4 - 00 X.
