Space Committee Meeting MINUTES July 2, 2014 Members Present: Shari Shuman, Jay Coleman, Mauricio Gonzalez, Joe Turner, Paul Mosley, Michael Kucsak Support Staff Present: Zak Ovadia, Everett Malcolm, Lance Taylor, Albert Colom, Dan Endicott, Elizabeth Jones, John Yancey, Mary Mory 1. Project Timelines - A meeting has been scheduled next week with Student Affairs to review a concept for Greek lodges. 2. Interfaith Chapel at the Sanctuary/Student Assembly Center - A meeting is being held to determine whether we should delay construction documents due to the revision of the energy code for Florida. The consultant will be asked to align the construction documents to comply with the new code which will take effect in 2015. - Albert Colom noted that the university may want to consider the practice of asking students to identify themselves as interested parties during the application process which would create a database to assist university groups in reaching out to them on campus. 3. Skinner-Jones Halls North and South. - The structural engineer has provided a structural evaluation report regarding the feasibility of adding a fourth story to each building. The report, which includes a few options with cost estimates is currently under review and will be shared with the steering committee. - Academic Affairs will be meeting to discuss the rat lab as part of the project. 4. Aquatic Center Re-Purposing - Construction documents are 99% complete. - Barton Malow has been asked to provide a preliminary GMP by July 11th. 5. Elevated Parking Deck - Construction is on schedule at this time and will be completed by January 2015. - Half of the 550 new spaces which will be designated for Housing and the other half will be for general parking. - A new location for the bat house is being considered. 6. New Aquatic Center - The first official programming meeting was held on June 27th. - The consultant will produce schematic designs reflecting the finalized programming. 7. Library Learning Commons - The furniture layout has been finalized. Power and data outlet locations have been identified. Selection of technology equipment and furniture selection is underway. - Funds have been set aside for the Math Emporium which will be located at the former Computer and Help Desk spaces. - Adding the Learning Commons and the Math Emporium to campus tours will be considered. 8. Physical Facilities Warehouse - A pre-construction meeting is being held today - The current timeline is for Physical Facilities to move into the new space in November or December. 9. Gender Neutral Restrooms - The final list of priorities of restrooms to be converted is completed and will be provided. 10. Storage Space for ROTC - The current space has been reconfigured with shelving and should complete this request. 11. Scheduling of Common Outdoor Space - The Student Union administration will now manage reservations and provide support for various outdoor common spaces. Rules for these spaces will be similar to current outdoor spaces managed by the Student Union. Clean up and the provision of equipment (tables and chairs) will also be handled. 12. Confucius Institute - An agreement has been signed and Student Affairs is currently waiting for the executed copy. A delegate from Shaanxi Normal University will visit UNF in September and then the university will have one year to organize and open the institute. The current proposed location for the institute is the Testing Center in Building 2. Completed Projects 1. Housing Clubhouse - The Housing Clubhouse has been completed and is open and operational. The Pita Pit is also now open.
